Ask questions!
Getting help is a skill that requires practice to improve and is crucial both within and beyond an academic setting. Students are strongly encouraged to practice this skill in this class to refine both when and how they seek help to maximize their learning and progress.
Student drop-in hours, also known as office hours, are dedicated times when the instructor is available to meet exclusively with students one-on-one or in small groups outside of class time. Students may ask course-related help, as well as seek academic and professional advice. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these drop-in hours to maximize their learning experience.
The instructor's in-person drop-in schedule is:
The instructor meets with students in a first-come first-serve order during these times. The instructor is also available by request for appointments via Zoom during some weekdays.
PENDING
Students attending class in-person may ask questions by coming to the front of the classroom at the start of class or during the break. During class, in-person students may also ask questions by raising their hand or responding to the anonymous PollEv web poll.
In addition to asking questions during class or in drop-in office hours, students may ask questions asynchronously using Piazza (accessible within Canvas).
When using Piazza, students are strongly encouraged to create and respond to public posts. Posts and responses may be either fully anonymous (name invisible to everyone), partially anonymous (name only visible to instructors), or non-anonymous (name visible to everyone). However, for sensitive personal matters, students should post privately to the instructor on Piazza instead.
In addition to seeking academic help, students should also treat themselves with kindness and seek help when struggling with their physical, mental, or emotional wellbeing. The instructor is available to listen with compassion and connect students with resources to help.
