Since this class uses alternative grading, the total score reported in Canvas does not reflect your actual letter grade.

Instead, you can use the assignments in the “Outcomes” category alongside the “Modules” to calculate your letter grade.

I know it is frustrating to manually update these values (especially given Canvas calculates averages already), but alternative grading is not yet well supported within the platform.

Step 1: Find Averages

You first need to know what progress you have made so far:

  1. Go to the Grades section of Canvas.
  2. Scroll to the bottom to view your percentage grade calculation for each of the assignment categories.

Keep these up—you’ll need this information for the next part.

Step 2: Update Averages

You next need to manually update your averages in the associated assignments on Canvas. These assignments are:

For each of these, complete (or re-complete) the quiz entering your current averages that you looked up from the gradebook earlier:

The exact points earned for each of the assignments is not important!

Step 3: Update Exceeds

Then, you need to update how many times your averages exceeded mastery. If you forgot already, you can go back to the Grades section to check what you entered:
